Mission and Values
Dance the Bay seeks to uplift individuals and community through the medium of dance.
We currently have three branches: Youth Program, Performance Outreach, and Community Workshops
Dance the Bay Youth Program, formerly known as Everybody Dance Now! Berkeley, strives to make dance accessible for youth by providing dance at preschool and after school programs. We teach genres of hip hop, contemporary, yoga, and creative movement, all the while emphasizing dance as an outlet for creativity and self-expression, and a means of learning discipline, cooperation, and confidence.
In the last year, we are humbled to have partnered with Bay Area Hispano Institute for Advancement (BAHIA) La Academia de BAHIA and BAHIA School Age Program, Boys and Girls Club of Oakland, Albany Children’s Center, Ailey Camp Berkeley/Oakland, and Berkeley LEARNS sites in the Berkeley Unified School District.
For Summer 2015, we are excited to continue working with BAHIA, as well work with YMCA Head Start and YMCA Summer Camp.

Dance the Bay Community Workshops reaches out to budding dancers and dance educators at Berkeley to motivate them to learn basics so they can in turn teach others. Created by Peter Joo in early 2015, Inspire consists of frequent, free workshops that happen on the UC Berkeley campus that provide ample opportunities for dancers to learn basics as well as a safe learning space to teach them too.

Dance the Bay Performance Outreach seeks to draw from the vibrant dance community at UC Berkeley and in the Bay Area to bring dance to communities who otherwise would have limited access to the arts. These monthly workshops and/or performances will take place in senior homes, homeless shelters, and children’s hospitals and will provide the opportunity for students to engage in performance opportunity, teaching experience, and service learning.
